Welcome
I know that because you’re visiting this site, and clicked on the button to this page, that you are thinking about or ready to take off weight. Perhaps you are like many of my patients, as well as plenty of other people I know, who suddenly become fed up with their extra pounds, start feeling anxious about their health and just want to unload the weight as quickly as possible. I wish I could tell you that all your wishes will immediately come true, but then I wouldn’t be honest.
Simply, there is no quick and easy solution to controlling your weight. In fact, it takes willingness and perseverance because it isn’t simple or fast. I know, because until I understood the underlying cause and solution to my repeated gains and losses, I struggled with being overweight most of my life.
My Story: The Beginning
I started to gain weight in high school. Before that, I was a fussy eater who lived on a limited number of foods. But by college and medical school my weight shot up until I was no longer just overweight -- I became obese. I did attempt to control my weight by trying out various diets, and I began to exercise daily, however my losses were only temporary, and, in time, I inevitably gained the weight back along with a few extra pounds as well.
As a result, not only was my health in jeopardy due to my being obese, but my self-confidence was eroded because I constantly berated myself for my inability to control my appetite and my weight. I felt ashamed of myself and felt that I had a weakness in my personality. Although to anyone else I possessed all the markers of success – a successful medical practice, a marriage, children and all the ensuing perks – in my own eyes I felt diminished.
As I aged, when health issues and some physical limitations started jeopardizing my well-being, I became more serious about finding a permanent way of controlling my weight. I finally realized I would have to adhere to a better plan of eating for the rest of my life and, although the initial phase to drop the weight would be more restrictive, I was willing to stick to it as long as I saw results. I didn’t care about the time or effort I would have to invest, I just had to find a dietary program that was easy for me to follow, where I wouldn’t experience hunger, didn’t have to count points or calories or be required to weigh and measure portion sizes or eat pre-packaged over-processed foods.
I just didn’t want another band-aid solution, a program where I lost the weight rapidly until the tape that seemingly held everything together was removed and I comfortably slid back into my old habits. This time was different than the times before. I absolutely had a firm resolve to find a way not only to loose weight, but also control it over the long run. As much as I wanted to find a workable solution, I wondered if I had conjured up an impossible dream.
My Story: Today
However, miraculously, my dream came true. I not only found a plan I could stick to, I learned that my problem with weight was not my fault. In fact, the reason I failed with other plans was as a result of my ignorance about how my body processed the food that I ate and how my sleep disturbances contributed to my uphill battles in the past. I have learned that sleeping soundly and limiting the number of grams of carbohydrates in my diet helped me to loose weight steadily and maintain it without feeling hungry. In fact, although I would have never believed it if I hadn’t experienced it for myself, my appetite has diminished naturally because I do not have the cravings for sweets any longer.
I am confident if you follow my plan and are willing to adapt new behaviors and be accountable for the actions you take, you too will have surprising results and revelations. I want to help you to effectively achieve “weight loss for life” safely, and without any appetite suppressing medications.
